Description:Sannieshof lies in the heart of a large maize producing region. When the first post office opened here in 1920 it was named after the wife of the postmaster of the controlling post office in Lichtenburg. In 1928 the settlement was named Roosville in honour of Tielman Roos, member of parliament for Lichtenburg, but the name did not find favour and the original name was restored in 1952. Sannieshof lies 40 km from Delareyville, 120km from Mafikeng. Attractions include the Barberspan Dam (30 km west of town, the pan is ecologically important since it is a large body of permanent water in an area of seasonal pans and vleis, it is particularly important for waterfowl, many of which moult here. It regularly supports over 20 000 individuals and, together with the surrounding nature reserve, holds over 320 species of birds); De Klipdrift Memorial (commemorating the Anglo-Boer War Battle of Tweebosch); Bird Farms; Nurseries.

Description:The village of Schoemansville was founded by Johan Schoeman and named after his father, General Hendrik Jacobus Schoeman, who is commemorated by the stone cross on the hill in Saartjie's Nek. Prominent in public affairs and a member of the former Transvaal Volksraad, General Schoeman invaded the Cape Colony at the head of a republican force in the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) and fought against General John French. He was killed in an accident in Pretoria not long after the end of the War.

Description:Schweizer-Reneke was named after Captain Schweizer and Field-Cornet Reineke who were killed in a battle against the Korrona in 1885. Surrounded by sunflower and maize fields - an attractive hitorical area to explore. Attractions include the façade of the town's bank which has remained unaltered since it was built in the early 1900s; Kliphuisie Guesthouse, a national monument which was the site of the town's first police station; San Bushman rock paintings (thought to be over 20 000 years old, these artwork can be seen 2km north of the town on the Delareyville Road); Massoukop (remains of the Koranna Kraals).

Description:The town of Stella, meaning "star", was named after the daughter of the owner of the farm Biesjesbult, which was often used for church gatherings in the early twenties. Stella is widely known as host of the annual Cattle Festival held in October.

Description:Steytlerville was established on the farm Doorschpoort in 1876. The town is in the centre of the wool and mohair district in the south eastern corner of the Great Karoo. It is well-known for its astonishing variety of semi-desert vegetation which includes dwarf shrubs, tiny succulents, umbrella shaped wild plum trees and ancient cycads. The wide main street was designed to allow ox wagons to turn around. Nowadays it is divided by flower boxes planted with bougainvillas in the centre and the lamp poles are adorned with the coats of arms of families associated with the town and area.

Description:Greater Stilfontein forms part of the KOSH area (Klerksdorp, Orkney, Stilfontein, Hartebeesfontein). It is situated 130km from Johannesburg and 180 km from Mafikeng. The town was established in 1949. The development of gold mines was made possible by the perseverance of Jack Scott who discovered and developed the outcropping gold reef. Stilfontein is renowned for its hospitality and excellent sports facilities, and hosts the annual Rose Festival in spring when the famous Stilfontein roses bloom. Tourist attractions include the Hartebeestfontein Gold Mine: witness a gold pouring session and join a mine tour.

Description:Swartruggens is a quaint village established on the farms Brakfontein and Scheepersrus in 1875. The name refers to the series of black ridges (hills) that surround the town. Swartruggens is 55km from Rustenburg and 69km from Zeerust. Attractions include a visit to African Game and Art (an ostrich farm offering tours and rides, and a well-stocked curio shop that also sells refreshments); Diamond Mine (diamonds were discovered north of the town in 1932 and today a few mines and small diamond diggings are still operational); Madikwe Game Resreve, Tulane Game Lodge, Lindleyspoort Dam, Swartgruggens Dam, Elands River Battlefield and Graves (a battle took place in this region during the Anglo-Boer War between 1899 - 1902).
