Be warned, Popa falls are not falls at all, rather a series of rapids, waterways and islands on the Okavango River. When the river is low the highest visible drop is about 3m. There is walkway into the middle of the river, after this you are free to scramble over the rocks in the middle of the river. At this point the channel is about 1km wide with the river split into a series of channels making their way through the rocks. The campsite suffers from the inflated park charges, but is set among lovely grassed lawns, by the water's edge. This is a popular spot for travellers on the way to Botswana and a convenient stopping place when travelling between Kavango and East Caprivi. The area is protected as a national park but is very small and apart from bird life, a few hippo and some crocodile there is little wildlife to be seen.
