Description: The Boe- Boe Nest is situated in the Koster/Swartruggens area - Only one day trails: 10 km -GPS wilderness Trail - along the Elands river. Rock pools and waterfalls, past an island "Jurasic Park" where "dinosaurs" await the hiker. Indigenous vegetation. Swimming pool and braai facilities on island. BASE CAMP: 20 persons. 2 HUTS 10 beds each. Electricity, kitchenette with cooking utensils, fridge, 2 plate stove. Bring own cutlery and bedding. Splash pool in camp. Fufe slide, mountain bike trails, canoeing, tubing and fishing allowed.
Comments: Beautiful island lapa and pool. Waterfalls, swimming, abseiling (bring own equipment); Fires only allowed at demarcated sites; crossing the Elands River is difficult when in flood.

Bergheim

Description: Bergheim is situated in the northern part of the Magaliesberg mountains, not far from Rustenburg in North West Province. The resort offers great hiking opportunities for people who need to break away for the day from the city and the shopping malls. Bergheim is also ideal for a camping or caravanning weekend and has a swimming pool braai facilities and tuck shop. A day hike at Bergheim makes for a good days outing, but it should be noted that the walk is largely unmarked and therefore needs a fare amount of orienteering to prevent getting lost. However, if you keep the gorge and stream in consideration, it should not present any problems. The climb to the top can be strenuous especially in summer and it is important to have an early start and take plenty of drinking water along (2 litres recommended)

Location: Kumbagana Game Park
Description: Eagle Cove is a very popular hiking trail situated in the heart of the Magaliesberg mountains. 3 x Well planned AND well maintained -5 km, 6 km and 10 km day trails start and end at the Base camp. 30m descending steps taking hikers down in stunning kloof. Indigenous bushes, sparkling mountain streams. Excellent panoramic views. A lot of game, good number of birds and indigenous trees. Nature lovers paradise!!! Eagle Cove Base camp for 20 people. Black Eagle Camp for 30 hikers. Both camps: Electricity, under cover braai areas, cooking utensils, fridges, stoves and fire wood provided. Neat ablutions.
Comments: Climb with steel ladders into valleys with swimming holes. There is a 3km walk from reception to base camp. Transport at a fee on request.

Eye View Hiking Trail

Location: only 135 km from Pretoria, outside Rustenburg on the Koster road.
Description: The Hiker's Dapper Stapper Bush camp is situated at the foot of the mountain. This is part of the Eye View hiking Trail. There are 4 X 2-3 bed Wooden cabins and stone build hut accommodating 8-15 people. Bring own sleeping bags, bedding and pillows. A communal bush kitchen with all basic facilities and cooking utensils, cosy braai lapa and boma. Bring own cutlery and crockery. Ablutions block with separate ladies and gents showers, flush toilets and hand basins. Day 1: 12 KM Day 2: 5 KM. 2 x Beautiful, well planned day circular trails with stunning panoramic views- from there the name "Eye View" , kranses, ravines, lush indigenous vegetation, abundant birdlife,(more than 150 species), a lot of game to be seen. On a clear day hikers will be able to see the Olifantsnek dam and Hartebeespoortdam. The attentive hiker may come across the rare blue Japanese Umbrella mushrooms: Coprinus plicatilis.

Description: Schoongezicht offers three excellent day trails: 14-17km, 10 km and a 4km (birders trail) along the Elands river. Variety of terrain, lush indigenous vegetation, koppies , spruitjies, riverines. BASE CAMP: (20 beds) A beautifully restored farm house (4 bed rooms) with a big stoep all around, and a cosy rondavel (own bath room) for the "snorkers" . Big dining area and kitchen. Extra neat ablution block outside with additional showers and toilets. Boma area with braai facilities and conversation pit. . Excellent bird watching, game viewing, mountain biking, star gazing.

Comments: This trail is 3km long and should be suitable for most people. It winds through succulent Karoo vegetation and takes you to two lovely dams with bird hides. There have been 175 bird species recorded in the reserve
