Description: The Stamvrug trails are within the Bateleur Private Nature Reserve which in turn forms part of the UNESCO proclaimed Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. There are several trail options available to the hiker, from half day trails to a two day backpacking trail.Kloof and Stamvrug huts are comfortable and have bunk beds and mattresses, warm water showers, under cover braai areas with fire wood. Ablutions include flush toilets and showers. There is also a gas stove provided at each of the overnight huts. From the Kloof Hut the trail is 13km to the Stamvrug Hut. Those who start from Stamvrug hut also have a 13km trek as their first leg to Kloof Hut known as the Leopard Trail. The 2nd days of the trail are 7km long and are the Sebra and Porcupine trail.

Wag 'n Bietjie

Description: For the Wag 'n Bietjie The landowner has provided three wooden chalets for the hikers to sleep in. One of the chalets has bunk beds and mattresses while the other two just have mattresses. There are thirty mattresses in total. There is also plenty of space to erect tents. The ablutions consist of flush toilets and hot showers. The kitchen area has a gas stove, some pots and a kettle and warm water washing up facilities. There is also a tuck shop were one can buy beer, sweets and ice cream. The camp also has a swimming pool to refresh in after the hike. A lovely Braai area is also provided and firewood is for sale from the farmer.The trails meander through the surrounding mountains. The vegetation is typical bushveld as found in many areas of the Waterberg. The trails are well marked and maintained and short enough to allow the hiker ample time to take in the surroundings at an amble. This trail, as mentioned above, is undemanding and therefore suitable for the first time hiker, family, school and church groups. The facilities are excellent but the regular hiker might find the trails a bit short and not challenging enough

Description: The Rhenosterpoort Hiking trail is yet another beautiful trail to be found in the Waterberg mountains. The Rhenosterpoort trail consists of a circular day walk that start and finishes at the camp plus a short, hour long, trail. Situated under the shade of several large trees, the camp is an ideal place to relax after the trail. The owners have provided exceptional facilities including a gas stove, hot showers, flush toilets and a refrigerator. There is no electricity but that adds to the bush experience. Candles are provided but bring along your torches and gas lamps. The main hiking camp sleeps twenty people. Paraplegics should be able to use the facilities in the camp with a little help now and again

Description: Mabote River camp offers four distinct trails,difficulty graded as three with a minimum time of two hours. It describes the colouring patterns of the indigenous Nguni animals. Sheltered by its enclosing hills, Groenkom farm lies in a natural basin and makes a wonderful bushveld retreat. The Thabaphaswa mountain towers over the adjacent hills. The network of hiking trails offers the ideal opportunity for nature lovers to discover the variety of game, bird and plant-life of this area. The beautiful scenery has been complemented by the design of the overnight camps which are camouflaged between the big boulders on the farm which blend into the landscape. Description: Boskloof is a new trail 2 day trail that has been developed in the same area as the Skeurkrans Hiking Trail. The trail is spectacular and explores areas that are remote and very scenic. To help the hiker explore the area, many bridges and ladders have been used. The trail is planned as a two day backpack trail.This is a trail that is sure to become a firm favourite. A lot of work has gone into making the remote areas of the farm accessible. Care should be taken when crossing the bridges when wet and those suffering from a fear of heights need to proceed with caution.

Mateke 4x4 Trail

Description: Time: 4-5 hours; Maximum 8-10 vehicles; Trail covers rocky terrain, river crossings, rocky climbs and steep decents of which "white-knuckle" is the king. The technicality of the trail requires that you remove your vehicle's running boards, deflate the tyres, take recovery equipment (hi-lift and snatch rope) and preferable go with more than one vehicle. Natural picnic spots between indigenous trees offers one the oppertunity for a well deserved break. Drive-Out grading: 3-4.

Description: Two circular trails leads one to the most spectacular and scenic areas on a 2000ha farm. Both trails are well marked. The Njala trail (13km) follows the Mamba River with its natural pools,and takes one to stunning views and wonderful picnic spots. The Kudu trail (9km) goes into the mountains and through dense indigenous forest, to kloof areas and views with nothing but unspoilt bushveld as far as the eye can see. Shorter hiking options are available for the not so keen hiker.

Waterberg Kruin

Description: The Waterberg Kruin Hiking Trail is on a farm that has been in the Trichardt family since the time of the first settlers. The basecamp at the Waterberg Kruin Hiking Trail is probably unique among trails. It consists mainly of A-framed thatched huts that overlook a beautiful lake. The Lapa is also spacious and well equipped. The first day's trail is 18Km long and takes the hiker to the top of the nearby Perdekop mountain. The trail is long but relative flat and so one doesn't notice the distance. The second day of the trail is 7Km long and follows a dirt road for most of the way. This is an easy walk and a certain amount of game can be seen. The Waterberg Kruin Hiking Trail is a fairly easy trail although the first day is long. There is quite a lot of dirt road to walk on and this might put some hikers off. The accommodation is excellent and is worth a visit on its own. Fishing is also available in the lake and this might be a good alternative to hiking

Location: 30km West Of Vaalwater on the R510 towards Thabazimbi
Description: Taaibos offers a classic Waterberg rock cahllanges with 14km of steep climbs, demanding descents and some serious river rock driving. The multiples river crossings can become very interesting during the wet season. Camp sites, hiking huts and self catering chalets are available. The chalets are fulley serviced, but you have to bting your own bedding. Difficulty between 2 and three with a maximum of 20 vehicles. Allow at least five hours. These trails have no guide. There is an abundance of game in the Waterberg conservancy, and there is also Pedi and Bushman rock art.
