Izemfene

Description: The Izemfene Hiking trail is a two day backpack route situated on a 2500ha farm in the Biggarsberg Mountain range close to the picturesque little town of Glencoe in KwaZulu Natal. The trail is quite strenuous, especially under hot conditions and recommended for experienced hikers. The trail has a wide variety of flora and fauna and is well worth the distance involved in getting there. Day 1 - 12Km Old Clubhouse to Dipkraal Camp Site. Day 2 - 10,5Km Dipkraal Camp to Old Clubhouse.The Izemfene Hiking trail is a trail that is well worth doing. It is well laid out but, with the exception of the first three kilometres, fairly tough, especially in the heat of summer. The landscape of KwaZulu Natal is different from other areas of our country and is certainly worth the additional journey distance to pay a visit.

Ingogo Hiking Trail

Description: The Ingogo Hiking Trail is situated on the huge 3 000 hectare DUNBLANE estate with pristine ecology in the Northern Drakensberg Mountains, 2 000 foot high escarpment face running through its centre. Hikers arrive and stay at Base Camp. GREY GOOSE FARM LODGE: "Academy Accommodation": Dormitory with 18 bunk beds and mattresses. Ablution facilities: hot showers, hand basins and toilets . Swimming pool.  Supper can be enjoyed at the Restaurant. DAY ONE: (12km: 5-6 hours) Steep sig sag 2km climb up Donkey's Pass. INGOGO RIVER COTTAGES: (Over night Camp): 3X pre-Anglo-Boer WarSand stone Cottages: electricity, hot running water and flush toilets.  2 X Open plan cottages with 15 beds and mattresses. The 3rd cottages: kitchen and under cover social area: chairs, tables and cutlery. Bath rooms. DAY TWO: (12km: 4-5km) The Trail goes North in a valley, upwards, and then turn in an Easterly direction. Hikers will use is a rope section to the top of the escarpment. NOTE: A guide is essential, (Johannes), although he need not accompany you all the way. In times of mist and heavy rain, his presence will be absolutely essential. He also is familiar with the area and all "short cuts" when necessary!! He will also open up the Ingogo River Cottages for you, fill the water tank, boil the water and start the fires, as well as set out the tables, chairs, and clean up.  @R150.00 per group for the weekend!.
