Description:Ventersdorp was founded as a Dutch Reformed parish on the farm Roodepoort in 1866. Ventersdorp is located in the fertile Vaal River Valley and is at the centre of a large agricultural area. Tourist attractions include Rietspruit Dam: a variety of water sports can be enjoyed at this resort 10km south of Ventersdorp; Tarentaal hiking routes; The grave with eternal flowers (in the town cemetery is the grave of an Irish soldier, G. Shaw, who fought on the side of the Boers during the South African War. He was court-marshalled by the British authorities and executed by firing squad).

Description:When the Republic of Stellaland was proclaimed in 1882, Vryburg ("Freefort") was established as its capital. The Repubicans called themselves "vrybugers" - "free citizens" hence the name of the town. Vryburg lies about 150km southwest of Mafikeng. Today it is the industrial and agricultural heartland of the Western region. The area supports a large number of game and cattle ranches. Attractions include the Leon Taljaard Nature Reserve (holds a variety of wildlife); the Tierkloof (Tiger Kloof) Missionary Station (established as a stone church in 1904 by the London Missionary Station, now a national monument and restored as an educational institute); the Theiler Agricultural Museum & Cattle Research Centre (found on the farm Armoedsvlakte nortwest of Vryburg, named after sir Arnold Theiler famous for his research into cattle diseases); the Vryburg Museum; Bushman engravings and the Old Goal main gate.
