Description:Taung - the "place of the lion" made world headlines when Australian anthropologist Professor Raymond Dart made a startling find here in 1924. The little Taung skull, which he classified as Australopithecus africanus, belongs to one of the earliest hominids that lived in southern Africa some 2.5 million years ago. Tourist attractions include Blue Pools: a picturesque valley with caves, streams and rock pools which lies close to the site where the skull was discovered and has popular hiking and picnic sites. Boipelo Game Reserve: part of the land grant to the Taung Sun Hotel, this 150-ha bushveld reserve supports seven different species of wildlife and more than 100 bird species. Dinkwaneng: a number of San Bushman engravings can be viewed at this site situated approximately 20km from the centre of Taung, near the Manthe village. Taung Dam: a perfect picnic spot, 17km out of town on the Kolong River.
Taung Skull Heritage Site - a monument to the discovery of the Taung skull has been erected at the historic site.

Description:When the new railway to the north was built, Touwsrivier became the first major locomotive depot after Cape Town. Railway employees and their families settled here and the town developed rapidly.

Description:Gracious Tulbagh is situated 130km northeast of Cape Town and is on both the wine route and the fruit route through Ceres and Worcester. A charming, historic town with a wealth of Cape Dutch architecture set in a beautiful mountain landscape. After a devastating earthquake in 1969, 32 houses were meticulously restored to their former grandeur - all of them were subsequently declared national monuments. A home to many local artists.

Description:The township of Tzaneen, situated at the foot of the imposing Wolkberg Mountains, was surveyed and planned by surveyor H Manaschewitz in 1919. It was in that year that a Certificate of Township Title was issued by the Government of the Union of South Africa, providing for a township called the Township of Tzaneen. In the same year the first town committee was elected and the official founding date set at 9 October 1919. Tzaneen is the second largest town in the Limpopo Province.
