Description:Potchefstroom, the original capital city of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek, has a multitude of national monuments, respected educational institutions and a strong agricultural economy. Tourist attractions include: Andrew Carnegie Library and City Hall (two national monuments in Potgieter Street, the city hall has a clockwork and bells that were manufactured in the Netherlands); Goetz Fleischack Museum (the only remaining example of the town houses that graced Market Square in the 1850s); North West Command (one of the largest army bases in the country); Oak Avenue (a 7-km stretch of road lined with oak trees that were planted in 1910); Potchefstroom Museum (an interesting art, cultural and history museum, housed in the home of President Pretorius, the first state president of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek); The Old Fort and Museum (remains of the old fort where British troops were besieged by Boer forces for 95 days during the South African War); Totius House Museum (the home of JD du Toit, well-known South African theologian who translated the Bible into Afrikaans).

Description:Through the efforts of Johannes Cornelius Goosen, a local farmer, a town named after Queen Victoria's second son developed here. Prince Alfred's Hamlet is the gateway to the Gydo Pass, famous for its scenic views. It is also on the route to the Koue Bokkeveld, Cederberg and Kagga Kamma. It offers an alternative route to Citrusdal.

Description:Prince Alfred's Hamlet is situated 10 km north of Ceres. The village was founded in 1861 and named after the second son of Queen Victoria, who had visited South Africa the year before. Mainly deciduous fruit is farmed here. Famous for its scenic views, Prince Alfred's Hamlet is the gateway to the Gydo Pass, an alternative route to Citrusdal. Gydo Pass goes through the Skurweberg to the farming area of the Koue Bokkeveld. The Pass affords wonderful views of the Ceres basin.
