Tudor Estates - Exclusive Tranquility

Tudor Estates is where you go when you want to leave the rush of city life behind you. Once through the front gate our farm Weltevreden unfolds before you, mountains, krantzs and grasslands, 4400 hectares for you to explore. The farm is on the edge of the Eastern Escarpment where the Drakensberg range extends up into Mpumalanga.

Whether you choose to go out trout fishing or put up your feet up with a good book you set the pace. Bring your hiking boots and mountain bikes to explore the farther reaches of the farm or take your vehicles along the mountain tracks to where you can sit and enjoy the views, listen to the birds and breathe the clear, mountain air.

The main stream runs along the home valley and through the Oak Wood before tumbling down a series of waterfalls on its way to the Lowveld. You may have seen the sign Heys Spruit on the N4, just past Waterval Onder. The river is named after George Heys, of Melrose House who purchased farms in the Elands Valley as well on the highveld above the valley. Weltevreden has been in the family since 1904 and has it's own history, as well as it’s Boer War connections.

We have only two cottages so privacy is guaranteed. Both are 3 bedroom (sleeping 6), two bathroom cottages and Shaw's has 2 box beds for extra youngsters. The cottages are fully fitted and serviced, with cosy fireplaces for the colder days. Situated on opposite sides of the home valley each has it's own ambience whilst having ready access to the streams and dams.

By day the river and dams await the fishermen and the roads and tracks around the farm invite the visitor to explore. Flora and fauna abound and it’s a long walk before you step over a boundary fence. At night the stars are spread out above you with that superb clarity only possible where there is no light pollution.

To find us turn off the N4 at Machadodorp and follow the signs to Badplaas. Take the Slaaihoek Road and look out for the second Waterval Boven signpost. Then it's just 6 ks of farm road and you are at the front gate. Previously all weekends were reserved for fishing syndicates, now the accommodation is available seven days a week. All you need to do is come through the front gate!
