Bethanie to Terra Rouge

Our Trip Report

Distance about 402km.

We left Bethanie Hotel feeling so rested and refreshed. We could wash off the D707 dust and the 'Coggi was broken' stress. We decided to go tar road to Mata Mata. Tired of bumps and dust. Running out of time. And, we knew full well that Kgalagadi will be dust and bumps all over again.

Bethanie Guest House to Terra Rouge

Terra-Rouge, is a working sheep and cattle farm in the Kalahari desert, close to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Terra Rouge offers a stay in a big farmhouse that serves as a guesthouse or in a chalet a little distance away under huge camelthorn trees.

The luxurious rooms are all en-suite, each with it’s own entrance, air-conditioned (heated for winter), mini-bar, coffee / tea facilities and equipped for self catering. Each room has beds with down feather duvets and percale linen. Guests are welcome to use the lounge and garden.

It also offers the ‘Meerkat Manor campsite” with five units under shady trees on the dry bed of the Auob river with hot showers, flush toilets and a beautiful view over the dunes and trees. Relax around the fire and braai meat produced on the farm.

Terra Rouge is a relatively new accommodation facility near the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park's new Mata Mata Customs Gate, being near enough to the gate to allow for day trips into the park, it is ideal for days when the park is fully booked.

It is also a very good spot to break a trip to enable one to sleep over and get into the park very early.
