Duwisib to Sesriem
Sesriem is a National Park campsite. Set in a dry landscape with mountains to the east and dunes to the west.
The Sesriem Canyon is located near the campsite and it is one of the must-see places in the area.
This camping site is the nearest campsite to the Famous Sossusvlei area. It is also the only camp from where one can leave very early to catch the sunrise moments in Sossusvlei, since the camp is located on the inside of the reserve. (camping is not permitted at Sossuvlei)
One can travel by car from Sesriem to the beginning of the vlei, but the last 4 km are only negotiable by 4-wheel-drive vehicles. The nearest dunes are only a few hundred metres away from the sedan car park and are easily accessible on foot, but it will be advisable to go with one of the many 4x4 operators who will take you into the area.
The camping spots are in the shade of ancient camel thorn trees, each camping site with its own fireplace and water.
Public telephones are available and there is a small shop selling beer, soft drinks and basic foodstuffs. The ablution blocks have hot showers, (sometimes) and toilets. There is also a swimming pool and a small thatched bar that has a selection of ice cold soft and alcoholic drinks.
