Pretoria to Riverwild

Past Machadodorp take R359
Distance about 290 km.

To break the long trip to Manyeleti in two, we decided to go to Riverwild for one night and explore their facilities and accommodation. We hit the road very early and reached Riverwild about three and a half hours later, giving us enough time to take our usual pictures. We were invited to go as guests on a 4x4 trail with two parties who also wanted some training.

Being fresh from the city, we immediately agreed and seeing that we did not need to carry off more than our clothes and toiletries, we got on the back of one of the vehicles, a bakkie, which enabled us to stand and watch the beautiful scenery. Pretoria to Riverwild

Riverwild is the ideal place for people who love 4x4 trails, hiking, tubing and camping or self-catering accommodation in a beautiful natural setting, where friendly, helpful staff spoil tourists with catered meals if they want it.

Accommodation A unique little tent camp caters for those who want to camp, but without the trouble of pitching and breaking camp. Just over the bridge from this camp is the ablution block, the pub and the communal area with pools for those who do not want to swim in the river.

Just past the ablution block are several camping sites with electricity on grass. Very neat, and also next to the rapids in the river.

A little distance away from the rest, is a few wooden chalets on stilts. These are perfect for someone who wants to self-cater, but who wants to be more private and have more luxuries. Each of the chalets are very well placed next to the river, each with a porch where one can sit and listen to the birds in the bush, the noise of the river or just sit.

Activities include 4x4 Trailing on a diverse group of tracks, each marked and graded according to its degree of difficulty, Bird Watching in the camp or on nature walks, Tubing the river, Teambuilding, Hiking and nature walks. Kiddies can swim in one of the pools, which includes a kiddie's pool.
