Tsolwana is not a place to leave without feeling sad, but one cannot stay forever, so we took the road to Mpofu, which also have lodges and a trail hut in a natural setting.

Arriving at Mpofu, we were met by a friendly lady at the reception, who accompanied us to Mpofu Lodge, which is also a large and spacious old renovated farm house, with a housekeeper, who also doubles as a chef. This lodge has an indoor braai area, enabling one to braai even on a rainy or misty day or night...

Tsolwana to Mpofu

Mpofu Nature Reserve is situated approximately 25 km northwest of Fort Beaufort and 20 kilometers west of Balfour. It lies on the escarpment and lower valleys of the Katberg Mountains and covers 7500ha with altitudes varying from 550m to 1384m.

The steep terrain and varied rainfall of the Mpofu Nature Reserve provides a rich and diverse habitat, which supports an amazing variety of animal and plant communities.

Mpofu is ideal for families or other groups holidaying together in luxury in a peaceful and natural setting. Prices are affordable and the service is friendly and accommodating.

Accommodation Mpofu Lodge is a 3 star restored farmhouse with 6 bedrooms of which 2 are en-suite. Fully serviced with a housekeeper & chef in attendance by arrangement. It accommodates 14 persons.

Intloni Lodge is also a 3 star restored farmhouse. Fully serviced, with a housekeeper & chef in attendance by arrangement. It accommodates 8 persons.

Mpunzi Lodge, also a restored farmhouse, has a bar with own fireplace. Housekeeper and chef in attendance by arrangement. It accommodates 8 persons.

The Trail Hut accommodates 11 persons maximum.

Wildlife at Mpofu include Black Backed Jackal, Black Wildebeest, Blue Duiker, Burchell's Zebra, Bushbuck, Bush pig, Cape Buffalo, Chacma Baboon, Common Springbuck, Dassie, Eland and Genet.

Activities at Mpofu include game drives, walking trails, bird watching, educational tours and picnics.
