ABOUT LINX AFRICA
Ai-Ais to Luderitz
Luederitz was the founding settlement of Namibia. It has about 20 thousand inhabitants who makes a living from fishing and diamond mining. It was built between the Namib desert and the Atlantic Ocean. It is exposed to the frequent Atlantic winds, heavy sea fogs and sand storms.
The town has a colourful look and feel, due to the well maintained buildings in the Wilhelmian Art Deco style from the era of German colonialism. The Lutheran "Felsenkirche", which was built in 1911, stands on a bare piece of land overlooking the town.
Due to the cold Benguella stream, the water at Luderitz is very cold, preventing large scale swimming and surfing. One can however visit the Kolmanskoppe ghost town, Shark Island and the museum in town. There are also a number of good eating places where seafood can be enjoyed.
At Agate Beach, swimming is allowed, but there are no lifesguards.
Acommodation available from Hansa Haus Pension in a historic building with magnificent sea views. Self-catering at reasonable rates. Luderitz. Tel ++264 (0)63 203 581.

Luderitz has a beautifully located camping ground on Shark Island, where one can see the Luederitz monument. From your camp you have a stunning view of the Atlantic, the harbour entrance and the town. Unfortunately, only a few stands are protected from the wind.
