The distance from Mpofu to Fort Fordyce is only 21 km. There is actually talk of consolidating these two reserves, because they are so near each other.

Upon reaching Fort Fordyce, we met the manager of the camp, who placed us in Harris Hut. It was very misty and we could see many tame horses walking around in the garden between the buildings.

Mpofu to Fort Fordyce

Fort Fordyce Fort Fordyce is the ideal place for horse lovers and riders. Here you can mount a horse and do your nature and game viewing on horseback. You can also get help and tuition from knowledgeable horse handlers in the riding and handling of horses, making this the ideal place to become an able horserider. It also has wonderful hiking and bass-fishing. It lies between Fort Beaufort and Adelaide. It is situated on the Amatola escarpment with magnificent views of the Hogsback and Katberg mountains.

Accommodation Harris Hut accommodates 4 people and is situated in indigenous forest with a nearby stream and braai facilities. Maqoma's Den accommodates 4 people. It is fully equipped with bedding, kitchen and braai facilities and has electricity. A permanent tented camp beautifully located near the Bass Dam. There is space available for a further 4 tents, for campers who wish to bring their own equipment.

Activities include Bird watching, Gameviewing, Bass fishing, Horse riding, Swimming, Mountain climbing, Hiking, Bicycle riding and picnicking.
